Spring Refresh – April 2007
Here at Devlounge, we have now officially turned one years old. Congrats to us, right? Feeling as generous as we are, we’re going to be giving away some of our presents in exchange for your ideas for our next look.
You see, we have carried the same look for a year now, and frankly, we’re getting tired of it. While I continue to love the colors and the setup, it is getting a bit old, and a fresh coat of paint, reorganization, and host of new features will benefit long-time and first-time readers in the long run.
Your Design, Your Devlounge
Devlounge is all about the readers, and we want to change for you. By giving you the freedom to design the site how you’d like to see it, it gives us many different perspectives on how users want content laid out, so even if no one entry stands out as amazing, we have something to build off of, to create a totally new Devlounge for launch this summer.
How to Enter
In order to enter, you must fill out the entry form and link to a PSD, JPG, PNG, GIF, or ZIP file of your design. You are may submit multiple design ideas in the form of a zip file, that will count for multiple entries, but you may only submit the form once. The contest will run from April 1st 2007 to April 16th 2007, when the call for entries will be closed unless we need extended time to gather additional entries. Our favorite design will then be chosen and the winner will be announced on April 21st, 2007.
Tips for Design Submissions
When designing your dream version of Devlounge, here a few things to keep in mind.
- A good starting canvas would have a width of 1000px
- Feel free to experiment with colors, as we have been stuck in this color rut for quite some time
- Find a practical way of including a few recent articles and interviews into the homepage, without being cluttered
- Fresh, original looking designs will sit best with us. Don’t go for a overused Web 2.0 looking design, we want to be unique.
Prizes
Everyone’s favorite part of any contest is the prizes. We will be adding additional prizes throughout the next few days, so check back often, but the leading prize of the prize pack will be a 30GB Microsoft Zune, purchased from Buy.com and shipped directly to you.

Now for rules and terms and conditions. There’s nothing hidden in here, but make sure to give it a quick read before submitting.
Devlounge April 1, 2007 – The Devlounge Spring Refresh 2007 (Refresh07) contest allows readers to submit their own designs in the form of psds, jpgs, gifs, or zips in order to win a prize pack consisting of (1) Microsoft Zune 30GB Mp3 Player. Entries will be accepted from April 1, 2007 to April 16, 2007, with a winner announced on April 21, 2007 at 12PM. Limited one entry form per person. This contest is open to all Devlounge readers, including staff, as winning entry will be chosen based on submitted design, and not by any special circumstances. Design must be original and the applicants own work, or the entry will be deemed immediately invalid. The winning design will be used in entirety or in part to build the next version of Devlounge, due on in the Summer ’07, so if a layered PSD is not submitted, keep one handy. The winning applicant understands that, once they are pronounced winner, their entry will become property of Devlounge for customization and deployment onto the site. Location will not determine chances of winning, although additional small prizes may be added / removed based on shipping cost to winners home address.
