It seems that no matter where we look, something is being replaced by technology. The old black-and-white movies from decades ago portrayed the future as being overrun with robots and devices way beyond the life that was simple.
These movies weren’t far from the truth. Every day, something is being replaced with something simpler yet more complicated, and human beings are being replaced with a more precise and more durable machine.
As scary as this may seem, it’s also very exciting. Here are some of the things that will be replaced by technology in the near future.
1. Cashiers
If you haven’t noticed, many cashiers are being replaced by automated devices. These devices have been seen in large discount stores around the nation.
Although many shoppers love the warmth of a flesh-and-blood cashier behind the counter, there’s no way to ignore the positive aspects of the automated system. Machines do not need breaks, nor do they need health insurance. The future will see even more of these conversions take place … maybe eventually disposing of human cashiers altogether.
2. That dreaded mechanical voice
No one likes the mechanical operator that greets them when we call to pay the cable bill or mortgage. Yes, that’s right: even mortgage companies have resorted to replacing the human race with robots. Who would have thought?
The future holds the destiny of the phone operator in its hands, and it looks as if there will be no human left on the other end of the phone line.
3. Medical staff
Yep, robots are doing surgery as well. So who would you trust more: the emotionally inclined hand of the doctor or the mechanical digit of the machine? Which do you think would malfunction the quickest?
This, my friend, is a very hard decision to make. For the last couple of years, science has seen the positive results of robotic surgeries. In the future, technology will be heading toward more and more procedures being done by robotic hands.
4. Banks
In the future, there will probably be no need for the bank’s physical location. Today, we already see the ATM, cell phones, and computers replacing and providing basic banking needs. No longer is it necessary to drive, let alone call the bank, to check your balance; there’s also no need to travel to the bank’s physical offices to deposit a check.
With most smartphones, you can utilize an application that let’s you take a picture of the front and back of your check and voila! your money is immediately posted to your account. It’s just that simple. In the future, the bank might just be another museum.
5. Shopping
It may be only a matter of time before all shopping will be done online. Even though, for decades, shopping has been a pastime for many young women around the world, it’s grinding to a halt in the near future, or at least it appears to be.
More and more people are moving their shopping habits to online sites and vendors. It’s become too easy to browse, select, and pay with just a couple clicks of the mouse. This way, you never have to get out in the cold or miss another episode of your favorite show!
6. Legal and transportation services
Recently, there was a rumor that the Department of Motor Vehicles was automating their system. This idea is seen as a very good one, in light of the fact that most people absolutely hate taking that trip to the DMV.
So, what’s next? Will every aspect of our lives become mechanical and digitized? Only time will tell just how far we will go in our evolving digital universe.
